Trace the
164-year history of Cunard along the Heritage trail that winds
throughout Queen Elizabeth 2. As you walk along her decks and
absorb her rhythms, you will come to understand the lure of
the seagoing life. From the first, Cunard has been the
innovator at sea. A case in point: In the gaslight era, Royals
aboard the Cunard ship Servia sipped champagne on the first
ship to be lighted with electricity.
During the Belle Epoque, when few buildings enjoyed running
water, tycoons aboard Aquitania swam laps in the ships indoor
swimming pool, even as they crossed the Atlantic in record
time, breaking the 22-year-old record held by another famous
Cunard liner, Mauretania.
With the launch of the 80,744-ton Queen Mary in 1934, Cunard
set a standard of sea-going luxury which has yet to be
surpassed. The original Queen Elizabeth was the largest liner
ever built when she was launched by Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth in 1938.
The Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship very much sets the standard
of traditional British elegance, superb White Star ServiceTM,
gourmet cuisine and sumptuous accommodations that have secured
Cunard Line's reputation.
